Products with Sustainable Materials for the Company with Limited Branding Budget for a Throwaway Product. Honest framing for this Category: No carbon neutral promotional products exist. Therefore the only real question is will the item that we promote be better than what we are currently using and last long enough to have been worth making in the first place.
A single use item made from recycled plastic still has a large environmental footprint compared to other products in this category. While it may be made from better materials than a standard promotional product, it is still a single use item.
Of those materials, bamboo is the most utilized sustainable material – fast growing, sustainable, eco-friendly and can easily be laser engraved without the use of inks, allowing for crisp and clean designs to be embedded within the product. Cork is another favorite sustainable material as it is extremely lightweight, very sustainable, water-resistant by nature and thus ideal for products such as coasters and mats. rPET, short for recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate, is also widely used as it is made from recycled bottle plastics that are spun into a fabric to create sustainable tote bags and other soft goods.
Seed paper: the only fully circular item here. The card is planted rather than thrown away.
Be aware of claims made regarding sustainable products. There are strict definitions for terms such as ‘biodegradable’ and ‘compostable’ and related test standards. Claims in excess of certified standards can expose suppliers and their customers to risk of non-compliance in various markets. Ask what standards a supplier is claiming certification against.
Boards, utensils, and shakers sit under kitchen and bar, and totes under bags.
