Screen printing is the cheapest way to produce clothing in bulk. If you have flat artwork with spot colors, then screen printing will provide the cleanest edges. However, each color requires a separate screen, so for example a 6 color design would be expensive. Embroidery costs more initially, but it will last longer than any print. For this reason, it is often used on staff uniforms, such as polos and caps.

Size runs go wrong on first orders (see above). The standard curve is a big waste of stock. So for staff uniforms, get everyone to give you their actual sizes, and for giveaways, order lots in the middle of the range and expect to have lots of XS and 3XL’s left over.

Fabric weight (in oz) is also worth checking. If a garment is under about 4.5oz it can feel very light in the garment and could show up in wear very quickly.
