Die-struck medals are made from a custom steel die. Under pressure, the relief is pressed into the solid metal. A printed or cast medal has artwork printed or cast on top of it. In photographs, both types of medals look the same. But in reality, there is a world of difference between them. Award recipients immediately notice the difference between a high-quality award and something that is just thrown together.

Many organizations waste the reverse face of medals, often making them completely blank. However, writing the event name, year of the event and the race distance/ category on the reverse face of medals actually creates a lasting record of the day of the recognition. This is what ultimately determines whether a medal is placed in a drawer or on a wall.

Allow for extra lead time for the first production run, as a steel die has to be cut before any items can be produced. Subsequent production orders, using the same die, will be produced and shipped much faster.

Minimums start around 50 pieces on medals and ribbons, lower on plaques and trophies. Certificates and printed recognition sit under print and paper, and staff programs under employee appreciation gifts.
