Crown structure is the first thing to consider when ordering hats. A structured crown has a buckram backing and will provide a flat surface for your embroidery. This is why corporate and team hats are usually structured. An unstructured crown will collapse softly onto the wearer’s head. This type of crown is more casual and is usually used for lifestyle brands. However, intricate embroidery can sometimes become misshapen when embroidered on an unstructured crown.
As you decide on the crown structure of your headwear, you can also decide on the profile of the cap. High profile caps look great for a sports look, mid profile is the safest choice for an all-round look and low profile caps are great for a relaxed, laid-back look, such as with a dad-cap.
Embroidery is a standard feature on hats that will last. The cost of embroidery is typically determined by the stitch count rather than the amount of colors used. Therefore, a dense fill logo (such as a company logo) will cost more than the detailed outline of the logo. It is also best to simplify any fine detail before putting it on the hat, as this type of detail will blur into a blob at the stitch resolution of approximately 1/4 inch.
Closure matters for fit across a mixed group: snapback and adjustable strap fit almost everyone, while fitted sizes need real size collection. Garments sit under apparel, and performance caps under golf and sports.
